Inspired by my favorite artist, Joji, I used the rhythm and tone of the music as well as lyrical translations to make design choices that best represented the meaning behind Joji's song MODUS within the first 15 seconds of his verse.
This was an experimental project using Adobe After Effects and exploring the many effects, tools, features, and combining tools to create new effects like the custom glitch shown below.
When Joji writes music, he writes from his experience as a musician coming from his YouTube celebrity era. Before jumping into the world of music, Joji was an influential YouTuber. When he joined the new industry, his experiences working with demanding and controlling studios put him a place where he questioned himself a lot. In the lyrics of this song, MODUS, was Joji's way of speaking on himself working and the demands of his work from producers. The end of this video stops at his repeated lyric of "Sometimes I Think" which was meant to be symbolize his endless thoughts always persisting.
